the summer reading club is back at plenty!
We're taking all the inspiration from our favorite part of the 80s and 90s, and bringing Book It! back for the big kids, because grownups can get prizes for reading, too! You may complete more than one book, but the goal is to read at least one book during the months of June and July. Perfect for bookworms and non-readers alike! Must be between ages 13 and 113 to participate.
AND WHAT EXACTLY IS BOOK IT?
In 1984, Pizza Hut started a program to encourage kids to read, working primarily through the schools. Reading goals were set, and when students met the goals, they won a free one-topping personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Sitting in those red pleather booths with our free personal pizza has to be in the top ten moments of childhood. (So much so that one of our booksellers still has her diploma, 36 years later!)
We now realize that as adults, we are still in need of encouragement to read. Life gets busy, and reading time slips away. But our lives are so much better when we spend a bit of time in a book! So the Summer Reading Club has come to the rescue.
WAIT, DOES THIS MEAN IF I PARTICIPATE, I GET FREE PIZZA?
Yes! For every book you read in June and July, you get a free slice of pizza, with special thanks to World Foods! (Limit one per week, while supplies last.) Just bring in a completed book recommendation form to receive your free pizza slice card!
We're also hosting a Pizza Party on Friday, July 31st, for all participants!
CAN I PARTICIPATE EVEN IF I DON'T LIVE NEAR PLENTY BOOKSHOP?
Yes! You can play from afar! You may not be able to make it to our pizza party, but you can still have all the fun. We will even mail you our Summer Reading Club button! Just turn in your filled-in summer reading bonus game tracker to ashley@plentybookshop.org. You must be present at the pizza party on July 31st to be eligible for additional prizes, but you can still enjoy all the fun of reading together with us this summer!
DO I HAVE TO BUY MY BOOKS AT PLENTY TO PARTICIPATE?
No. I mean, we love it when you shop with us in store or online! (Or with books you listen to on Libro.fm!) We can't do fun pizza parties without our fantastic patrons! But we also want you to use your local library! No purchase is necessary to participate.
CAN I COUNT THE BOOKS THAT I READ THIS SPRING?
No. Sorry, friends. You can only count the books that you read in June and July of 2026.
DOES IT HAVE TO BE A NOVEL?
No. Choose a book that interests you, even if it's a collection of poetry, or essays, or a Shakespearean play. If you're not much of a reader, we suggest starting with a Young Adult or Middle Grade novel, that's totally fine. The point is to get your nose in a book this summer!
